Helpful Hint #1

It is extremely important to know where the main shut off of the home or building is located in case a pipe burst or breaks, especially living in earthquake-prone California. Natural gas leaks and explosions are responsible for a significant number of fires following disasters. It is vital that all household members know how to shut off natural gas.

When you learn the proper shut-off procedure for your meter, share the information with everyone in your household. Be sure not to actually turn off the gas when practicing the proper gas shut-off procedure.

If you smell gas or hear a blowing or hissing noise, open a window and get everyone out quickly. Turn off the gas, using the outside main valve if you can, and call the gas company from a neighbor's home.

CAUTION - If you turn off the gas for any reason, a qualified professional must turn it back on. NEVER attempt to turn the gas back on yourself.

Helpful Hint #2

To remove unsightly mineral deposits on your shower head put 1 ½ cups of vinegar in a plastic bag and place it over the shower head. Hold it in place with a twist tie and let it stand over night. In the morning, remove the bag and the mineral deposits should come off by wiping with a damp cloth.

Foul odors occur from a build up of food debris inside your garbage disposal. To eliminate these odors, place ice cubes and lemon peals in the disposal and run for about 35 seconds, then rinse with cold water. Once a week run hot water down the drain to help keep it Free – Flowing!!

Helpful Hint #3

Here are some more natural ways to get that drain draining again...Baking Soda. If the situation isn't too dire yet, you can simply pour about a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by some boiling hot water.

It'll get things moving nicely again and prevent a more serious clog. Bubbly Baking Soda & Vinegar. It looks impressive and this solution really works.

First pour a cup of baking soda down the drain, then follow with a cup of vinegar. Let it fizz for a bit - yes, you can ooh and ahh if you want to - then rinse the whole fizzy mess away with some really hot water.

This should help you from using those nasty chemical drain cleaners. You really don't need them in most cases. Hope this helps!
